Watch List

These are some books we’ve been reading and content creators that keep us informed. One of the easiest and most effective ways to make change is just this: learn, and tell others what you’ve learned.

Vox Urbanism and Transportation

Vox has an informative series that does a great job taking on complicated problems, and breaking them down into manageable size. In this video, Vox explains a problem near and dear to our hearts – “How the US made affordable homes illegal”

Strong Towns

Strong Towns, created originally by engineer Chuck Marohn, examines the effects of car-dependency on the city’s finances – and notes how the way we’ve been building our cities is a path to financial ruin. In this video, Strong Towns shows how our property taxes robs the poor to pay for the wealthy.

NotJustBikes

Most of us grew up knowing nothing except the suburbs and car-dependency. Creator Jason Slaughter has lived in cities across the U.S. and abroad, before settling down in the Netherlands. Why? Because a city with fewer cars is a better city. In this video, Jason describes why the happiest kids in the world live in the Netherlands (and not in the suburbs).

City Beautiful

Creator Dave Amos is a City Planning Professor at California Polytechnic. He approaches housing and transportation in a way you’d expect from a well-meaning, nerdy professor. In this video, Dave tells us why the cozy corner store is not only absent, but usually illegal to build.
